NEPA ACTIVIST GROUPS SUCCESSFULLY BLOCKING IMPLEMENTATION OF THE
HERGER-FEINSTEIN QUINCY LIBRARY GROUP FOREST RECOVERY ACT

meanwhile ... the forest burns ... Bucks Fire, Storrie Fire, Stream Fire, Boulder Fire,
Wheeler Fire, Moonlight Fire ( a total of more than 90,000 acres)

Table 1 lists 9 projects that had appeals and/or law suits filed by the NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) activists.  These actions have prevented 41,800 acres of hazardous fuel reduction and forest restoration treatments.  In addition to the forest restoration work these projects would have yielded 160.5 million board feet of sawlog volume (all under 30 inches in diameter and enough to build 16,000 homes) and 284.7 thousand bone dry tons of biomass volume (enough to generate xx kilowatts of electricy to power xx homes)..

Bold print shows most recent actions.

Table 2 lists 12 other projects that will have appeals filed by the same parties during the 2007 and 2008 field season.  These actions will stall another 56,100 acres of hazardous fuel reduction and forest restoration projects.  These projects would have resulted in approximately 156.3 million board feet of sawlogs (under 30 inches in diameter) and 187.7 thousand bone dry tons of biomass material.

The opposition’s strategy of filing appeals and law suits continues to prevent implementation of 97,900 acres of hazardous fuel reduction and forest restoration projects in the eight county area of the pilot project and eliminating 316.8 mmbdft of sawlogs and 472.4 mbdtons of biomass from local contractors, sawmills and electrical generating power plants.
